Shot Peening
Dating back to 2700 B.C. man has made metal objects stronger by means of mechanical pre-stressing. Hammering the metal to sharpen the edge or form it to a shield also made it tough.
This hammering process, know today as Shot Peening, has been refined to the art of directing the shot to a precise area providing a repeatable consistent process.
This process reduces premature failure by improvements in fatigue strength. With results as great as 10 to 100 percent improvement in fatigue strength, it can mean as much as 100 to 1200 percent improvement in tool life. PFG plants provide both mechanical and air nozzle shot peening services.
The shot peening process can be validated by the use of Almen strip testing or a third party testing by Lamb Research X-Ray Defraction Certification.
